It has been the simplest race since Feb 2003 that I have attended.
Yet the 24th edition of the Yakult 10 miler has not diminished in prestige or deviated from its intent to promote healthy living through running, and even discover a future running star for the country.
The registration is a bargain considering the increasing fees these past years. Why? No medals, no loot bags, no registration freebies, no fancy celebrities gracing the affair.
In simplest terms, no funfare but straightforward running. And that's what it is supposed to be.
The starting lines for the 16k, 5k and 3k were clearly marked with all runners in the coral by 5:30. It was a pleasant surprise to have the race start on the dot.
The route was secured with police officers manning the major intersections. Di makapalag mga motorista, hahahaha!!! It became tight across the Baclaran church where there was a road re-paving but other than that, it was A-OK. The 2 flyovers were good challenges. And its good that they were within the first half of the route, otherwise, hilahod ako tiyak. Too old to be tackling "hills" at the last half. And its good for negative split!
They promised hydration station every 2 km - they lied!!! It was every 1.6k yata!! HAHAHA....and thank heavens for that. I could not complain. None of the usual energy drinks peddled in the other races but the water was ice cold and more than enough for me. Alangan namang Yakult ang ipainom. Rebolusyon ang tiyan tiyak!
They had sponges too!!! Amazing!
I came in 1:21 I think. A PR and 5 minutes better than my 2011 PSE Bull Run pace. My 11-1 run-walk strategy paid off as I even had a negative split of 33 seconds.
Another welcome thing is the cotton finisher shirt. All of my finisher shirts are "technical shirts". Init isuot after! I like to wear my finisher shirt immediately after the race para pamalitan as I am drenched in sweat by that time. I would sponge myself with a wet face towel and changeover. And a cotton shirt is perfect for that changeover. Way to go Yakult! Some prefer a tech shirt they can use for training. For me, the singlet should suffice.
There were 2 "bottles" of Yakult too. But, it is advised that one bottle per day is more than enough. If you got two, you're good for 2 days.
Overall? I like this Yakult race. It comes 2nd to my TBR Dream Marathon race, considering no medal pa.
See you again next year. Count on it!
